ApolloAbstracts. Things noticed and shared. And a little bit about each image.
Sticks-On-Fire—Euphorbia tirucalli is more commonly known as the pencil cactus, with a variety known as sticks-on-fire. With this photo I leaned into that name and used intentional camera movement to accentuate the flamelike feeling of this not on fire plant.
Track of My Tears—I get a lot of questions about what this is and how I captured it when really it was just something that I happened upon. I was walking down the street just after it had rained, but the sun was out. These rain drops were sitting on the sunroof of a car, and while the sunroof looked like your standard gray sunroof, the water drops were turned into this kaleidoscope of colors.
Plains Guardians—When I was a kid I would imagine the electrical pylons as giant beings, waiting for an opportunity to come to life and stride across the plains. In Iceland, they have a concept that would design the pylons as giant humanoid sculptures that hold the power lines above the landscape. Taken as we traveled through Diné Bikéyah.
The Other Window—Back when they had the direct flight between Los Angeles and Hilo, I would frequently be on a flight heading home during the sunset. This one evening the sunset was particularly vivid, unfortunately I was on the east side of the plane as it headed towards Hilo. While there was some color and a moonrise on my side of the plane, I could only capture glimpses of what was happening through the window on the other side of the plane.
